Door Handle

I told my mother that I have painted a painting that has a door handle on it. She came over to my place just to see it.ย She looked at it and she started talking and showing funny face to the painting. I was surprised to see that. I thought it was because there is a design of lion head on the door handle. She told me she purposely come to see that.

My mother told me she had a door handle like that on her house’s door in China when she was a child. It was already there when she was born. She played with the door handle at home and liked to talk to it when coming home or leaving home. That door handle greeted her at her door day in day out. She said hello and bye bye to the door handle when she was a child. The door handle had a feature of an animal face that had eyes, nose and month, so she talked to it and touched it and play with it when she was a little girl. She said she had not seen her door handle since she was 12 years old as she left her home for Hong Kong. My mother told me all that in front of my painting this afternoon.

Painting has a power to make people recall their memory and share experiences.

You know what, my mother said bye bye to the Lion Head (the door handle on my painting) like saying to an old friend before she left my place.
