I was inspired to paint this representational painting by the sights of my surrounding. There are trees and schools near where I lives. The red wall building belong to Griffiths Primary School at Tampines St 22, Singapore. Here is the painting I painted today to share with you.

Trees and Red Wall Building (Griffiths Primary School). 2011. Acrylic on canvas.
6 x 6 inches. By Prabhakara Jimmy Quek.

I started this painting at a painting session. I just added a bit of finishing touch up after the session. I treated this painting as an exercise to sharpen my skills and perception. Hope you like this simple painting.

Sometime I use a different route for working out my painting. When working with this painting, my state of mind is different. Like all state of mind, this state of mind is also of transient nature. It needs to be identified and developed and then transformed it into action.

I have to be fully alert and keep this alertness and creativity spirit with me alive. Start with randomly and haphazardly placement of colour and shape and see the overall visual effects of the work. The painting effect is changing from moment to moment when each stroke or placement of colour is made on the surface. Each attempt changes the visual effect of the painting into a different one.

I work fast so to make marks and strokes on the surface and to mix the colour that I wanted for the surface. From randomly strokes to purposeful strokes. I need concentration, inner mental image, artistic skills, knowledge and experience for that and clear awareness of mind and thoughts.

I have to make many decisions quickly and to make revision again and again. I use various painting techniques and ways of expression that I feel that is correctly expressed what I have in mind. Any marks and strokes of colours on the canvas will change the existing visual effect that I have built earlier.
