Monthly Archives: August 2011

Here are 3 paintings that I have completed recently. I have wanted to paint simple object like paper folded crane for sometime.

Origami peace crane 2. Acrylic on canvas. By Prabhakara Jimmy Quek.

The idea of below painting come from seeing two small flowers that my student used it for her painting. I wanted to show how I could use common subjects to start a painting and then depart from there, using art elements and abstract principles for the painting with my own appoaches and feelings for that. Here is the painting:

I have completed this painting. I am delighted to show you how it looks like when it is installed on the wall. I took these 2 photos last night.  Please let me know how do you feel about it.

The month of August 2011 is quite a special month for Singapore because there are two national events fall in August. Event 1: National Day on 9 August; and Event 2: Presidential Election 2011 polling day on 27 August. How do I spend my day on these two dates? For 1:  I joined the Dhammanusari Day Retreat on 9 August; and for 2: I shall go to vote on the polling day morning and to have my painting session with the participants in the afternoon.

My family and I were at the Dhammanusari Day Retreat at Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on 9 August 2011. I have the opportunity to take photos and make two videos for the Dhammanusari group. Happy making offerings, keeping precepts, listening to the teaching and practising meditation on that day. I have taken a nice group photo of participants with Venerable K. Rathanasara.

Two years ago, I painted the below painting. The inspiration for the painting came from the Dhammanusari Day Retreat. Nice to see that they have used the painting for their chanting Book cover design.
